Submission Instructions

Please keep in mind the following important guidelines for our Conference Proceedings.

Conference papers and presentations are a networking tool for members of the Society and those who attend a conference. The Conference provides a venue for presenting work and receiving comments that can strengthen the work and help to prepare it for wider distribution.

The Society will produce and maintain Web Proceedings of abstracts and papers to provide a complete record of presentations at the Conference. The Web Proceedings are not intended to be a substitute for publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

The strength of the field requires publishing good work, to reach audiences beyond those attending our conferences. Consult with highly experienced professional system dynamics colleagues for suggestions on making your work ready for publication and for suggestions of where to publish.

Abbreviating your paper for the Web proceedings is a good idea if you intend to publish it after the conference, as many journals will refuse to publish the same paper that has appeared elsewhere, including conference proceedings.

For information and examples of preferred reporting requirements, see the paper “Reporting guidelines for simulation-based research in social sciences” by Hazhir Rahmandad and John D. Sterman.

Conference Web Proceedings:

The deadline for Web Proceedings material is mid-August. Full works for plenary, parallel, poster, and workshop presentations will be included. If a Web Proceedings paper is not received, only the abstract will be included in the Web Proceedings. The blind/review version of the paper will NOT be included in the proceedings. Papers must have been presented at this year’s conference to be published in the proceedings.

The Web Proceedings version paper file is limited to a maximum 2MB electronic file size. Documents must be received in .pdf format. When applicable, authors are encouraged to submit one file of supporting material. The supporting material file is also limited to 2MB.

Text should appear in 12-point Times or equivalent, single-spaced, with one-inch or 3-cm margins all around. The body of the paper should be right and left justified. Figures placed within the text should have the same margins as the text, as a maximum. Papers in the post-conference proceedings will appear just as submitted. The electronic conference proceedings are available for free and for public viewing.

Please include any/all contact information to be electronically archived with this paper (included in the post-conference proceedings); at a minimum author name(s) and at least one way of contact is requested. At the top of page one, place a center-justified heading as follows:

Full Title of Paper (16 point, bold)

Author(s) Name(s) (12 point, bold)

Organization/Affiliation (12 point)

Complete Postal Address (12 point)

Telephone/Facsimile Numbers (12 point)

Email Address(es) (12 point)

If research was done at a different university, or there is a different funding source, please list this information also.

The paper begins on this page (there is no separate title page) and must contain:

– An abstract summarizing the entire paper (not exceeding 200 words, in italics)

– List of up to eight key words that describe the paper (optional)

– Body of paper

– Figures included within the main document

– References

– Any supplemental information (addenda, equations, etc.)

References should follow the reference and citation style of the System Dynamics Review: (Please scroll down to find the Reference Style.)
